How to Avoid COVID-19 During the Holidays

NOVEMBER 11, 2020

During the holidays we want to spend time with our families and celebrate together. However, that can prove difficult during the pandemic. The best practice to avoid contracting or spreading COVID-19 during the holidays is to not travel and continue social distancing and mask-wearing protocols. Here are some ways you can practice these measures and still enjoy the holidays safely.

Smaller Gatherings

Limit your gathering to family you’ve been in contact with regularly. Wear masks when not actively eating or drinking and stay 6 or more feet apart (sorry, no hugs!) Eat outside if weather permits.

Zoom Calls

Hold a Zoom meeting with your extended family and friends. You will be able to see each other while you catch up or have your meal together.

Elderly Family

Keep elderly family safe by having them stay home. You can make dishes to deliver to them or have food delivered by a local restaurant that is providing holiday meals.

Food Safety

Wear a mask while preparing food for your family and wash your hands often. Have one person serve food or make sure everyone uses their own utensil to plate their meal. Place hand sanitizer out if sharing utensils is unavoidable. Make sure everyone washes their hands before eating.

Travel Safety

If you must travel, wear a mask and use hand sanitizer or wash your hands after every stop. You can use Wet Ones to disinfect gas pumps or the area around you if you’re on a plane.

Remember that if you do attend social gatherings or travel you are at higher risk of spreading the virus. Keep family and coworkers safe by taking extra precautions for 14 days after your gathering.
